Supporting Students on Results Day: Key Steps

1. Get to Know Your Student
You’ll receive an information form with key details about your student. Use this to understand their background, goals, and preferences for their next steps.

2. Make a Plan Together
Discuss their priorities—location, course, accommodation—and agree on which universities they'll contact. Ensure you're both clear on the approach.

3. Prepare for University Calls
Help your student get ready to call universities:

  • Find a quiet space.

  • Gather key info in advance.

  • Speak calmly and clearly.

  • Offer to listen in on speakerphone if they’d like support.

  • Prepare thoughtful questions to ask (e.g. Does this course have a work placement? What accommodation options are there? Can the student visit?)

4. Debrief
After the call, review what the university said and decide on next steps together.

5. Record Everything
Log all actions and conversations on the student record sheet. This helps ensure continued support from the school or MyBigCareer.

6. Plan the Next Steps
Most students won’t have a final destination on Results Day. Help them outline what comes next and share our contact info:

7. Track Your Support
Even brief interactions count—make a note of how many students you supported throughout the day.

Extra Info: Clearing Timeline

  • Clearing opens on 2 July 2026, with vacancies listed through the UCAS search tool.

  • On Results Day, eligible students can add a Clearing choice from 13:00.

  • The final deadline for adding Clearing choices is 19 October 2026.

  • Encourage swift action — course availability can change quickly, and popular places may go fast.
